Water Heritage Day
Water Heritage Day takes place every year as part of National Heritage Week in August. The event encourages us all to celebrate water as an integral part of our natural heritage and a vital part of our future. It also helps us to reflect on the importance of water and water quality in our daily lives, and how we can all contribute to efforts to conserve this valuable resource.
You can find out more on the dedicated Heritage Council website.
Water Heritage Day 2025
Boyne Rivers Trust joined the Solstice Arts Centre in celebrating Water Heritage Day on 24th August 2025 with another instalment of the Take Me to the River series.
The event, which took place at Brú na Bóinne National Park, featured creative workshops, walks and hands-on activities. It provided an opportunity to discuss the past, present and future of the site of natural, cultural and heritage importance, bringing together science, art and history.
Activities included a guided walk around the grounds of Brú na Bóinne National Park, kick-sampling, large scale drawing, weaving, sculpture, and data collection.
Thanks to all who joined us on this special occasion.
Water Heritage Day 2024
To mark Heritage week and Water Heritage Day, the Boyne Rivers Trust, with funding from LAWPRO, hosted a wonderful event with a fascinating talk by local author and mythologist Anthony Murphy, on the rich history and significance of the River Boyne and its connections with the ancient monuments of UNESCO World Heritage site Brú na Bóinne - Ireland's newest National Park!
The event took place at a stunning location overlooking the bend of the Boyne and Knowth. We journeyed through the history and mythology of Brú na Bóinne, from the Ice Age to Neolithic times, and how the legend of the Salmon of Knowledge got all its worldly knowledge from the well where the Boyne rises.
Thanks to all who joined us for this special event.
